Unable to launch or run exercises...

1. Browser

All exercises will work with Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Safari (Mac), etc. Go directly to the SoftwareForNurses.com web site in your browser. Do not access SoftwareForNurses.com through other web sites such as a school web site or Blackboard.

2. Cookies

Cookies must be enabled. To enable cookies, in Internet Explorer select Tools | Internet Options | Privacy, and then set the Privacy slider to Medium or LOWER. NOTE: If you are very concerned about security and don't wish to lower the overall level to Medium (or lower), you can select the Edit button at the bottom of the Privacy box, enter http://www.softwarefornurses.com in the address field, and then click Allow.

3. Popup Blockers

Internet Explorer has a built-in pop-up blocker which may interfere with the exercises. Go to Tools > Pop-up Blocker and make sure it is turned off. Close and restart Internet Explorer, then try again. If this solves the problem, turn Pop-up Blocker back on and then go to Tools > Pop-up Blocker > Pop-up Blocker Settings and add www.softwarefornurses.com to the list of allowed sites.

When pop-ups are blocked, some browsers display a yellow bar at the top of the browser window. You can click on the yellow bar and select "Temporarily allow pop-ups" OR "Always allow pop-ups from this site." That will allow the exercise to launch.

Some third-party pop-up blocker programs will interfere with the running of the exercises. Disable all pop-up blockers temporarily when running SoftwareForNurses.com scenarios and exercises.

Test: To ensure you're able to launch popup windows, please click on both of the following links; Test 1 | Test 2

After you click on Test 1, click on "test popup" and make sure a popup window appears. Close the popup window, click "return to troubleshooting" and click on Test 2. Another popup window should immediately appear.

If either popup window failed to appear, you will need to temporarily disable your pop-up blocker.

4. Antivirus

Norton or McAfee or similar anti-virus applications can interfere with web-based software like the nursing exercises. If you feel your Antivirus application is the cause of the problem, you may wish to temporarily disable it.

Some anti-virus applications (such as McAfee VirusScan) run as a browser ADD-ON. Solution: Open IE and select Tools | Manage Add-ons ... Once again, as a quick temporary test highlight the McAfee VirusScan item (or other anti-virus application) and click Disable at bottom of add-on manager window. Click OK.

5. Firewalls

Software firewalls such as ZoneAlarm, Norton, Comodo and others can interfere with the exercises, depending on how they are configured. You may need to adjust some settings, or temporarily disable your firewall.

6. JavaScript

JavaScript must be enabled to run the exercises. To confirm this, please open Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options, then click on the Security tab. Next make sure the Internet is highlighted and click on the Custom Level button. Now scroll down to the Scripting section and ensure everything is Enabled in this section.

7. Temporary Internet Files

If all of the troubleshooting tips above don't solve your problem, you may want to try the following. Select Tools | Internet Options from the Internet Explorer menu bar, then delete "Temporary Internet Files", "Cookies", and "History."

8. System Requirements

- Screen Resolution: 800 x 600 (minimum)
- Browser: Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla Firefox, Safari (Mac), etc.
- JavaScript must be enabled
- Cookies must be enabled
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows or Mac OS
- Popup blockers must be disabled (see Number 3. above to test)

Test: To check your computer settings, click here.

Still Having Problems?

IMPORTANT: Whenever you make changes to your web browser configuration, it is necessary that you acknowledge any confirmation windows, and close all open browser windows before the new settings will take effect. This may also apply to other applications like your popup blocker or firewall. Generally, it is a good habit to change/save/close/reopen your application.

WHAT'S NEXT: If after checking all of the above you are still experiencing problems, please contact your onsite administrator.
